The Lowlands and Borders Piping Society: Annual Piping Competition

This competition is all about enjoyment and musicality, you will hear various bellows blown pipes played in a range of classes, including solo pipes, duet for pipes, pipe and song, duet for pipe and voice and duet for pipes and other instruments. We welcome audience participation by asking 5 different people selected randomly for each class to award each competitor marks out of 10. The remaining 50 marks are awarded by our judge for that particular class. Marks are awarded for overall performance, musicality and enjoyment. Showcase night sure to please all folkie tastes featuring some of Edinburgh's finest bands with Celtic music at their roots. Singer songwriters Wailing Miserere and Andy Mill will pull at the heart strings, have you laughing and singing along. Norman MacKay's Ceilidh Experience play traditional dances like the Dashing White Sergeant along with the more obscure numbers to get you jigging and reeling the night away, plus a special showing of the Ceilidh Master video featuring Norman's superhero alter ego saving the day. Jacob's Pillow bring their unique blend of grooves, roots and rock for the 3rd year in a row and are sure to finish the night in style. One not to be missed for avid folkies young and old.
